| Her Leading Man - Robert Newman: For nearly 20 years, Zimmer has worked opposite Newman, aka her GL husband, Josh. "There's not enough I can say about Robert. He's just grown so much. He was a bit of a pain in the ass in the early years. He has just come such a long way. I just adore him now. We don't even rehearse our scenes together because it's just there." Her On-Screen Rival Cynthia Watros: In one of Zimmer’s most popular GL storylines, she locked horns with Watros' nutty Nurse Annie. "She succeeded in doing something with her character that no one had anticipated. She was afraid to go for that kind of 'psycho' side of Annie...so she didn't go so far with it that it became unbelievable." Her Career: Zimmer won three Emmys, and she'd like more. "I'd love to know I had the material to win another one. And if I had thought that I did, I'd be very hurt not to be nominated. I've always loved the daytime format. I would like to just stay with GL and do some theater for the rest of my life." Her Better Half: Zimmer met A.C. Weary doing a play in college. "I've been with my husband for 29 years. I don't think people are aware of just how much he means to me. He's been my rock." Her Folks: "My parents [Jack and Dede] always said, 'You can always get a job if you can type.' Because of that, I never really learned how to type. I knew I wasn't going to have to type." Her Children: After moving back East from California, Zimmer’s kids gradually adjusted. "Rachel had kept in touch with a friend in New Jersey, so she was at an advantage. And it took Max about a day to find a whole gang of kids to run with but Jake had never had a male teacher before!" Her Favorite Charities: "There have been so many years when I haven't felt like going to a golf tournament, then I think about the kids. I basically just do these events that are for children's charities. I feel like I have to give back." |
