The Daytime Emmy Awards are this Friday, May 20 and you can bet there will be plenty of primping, prepping and panicking in the days (and hours and minutes) leading up to it.

Soaps In Depth - How do daytime actors get ready for a big event – both physically and mentally?

Kim Zimmer - “I could be creative, but you know what I do? Because we all get our hair and make up done at the studio at Guiding Light, I take in bottles of champagne and we all drink champagne while we’re getting ready.”

SID - What was it like to talk to fellow nominee Tom Pelphrey?

Kim - "My little boy. I said it from the first week I worked with him that he doesn’t have any competition in that category. I am a little partial – unless of course my real son (Jake Weary, Luke, ATWT) had been in that category.”

SID - Does this nomination feel different?

Kim - “I am trying to be humble, but it’s really difficult because I am really excited that I turned 50 and that I got another nomination.”

SID - Did your first fountain scene win you the Emmy in 1985?

Kim - "No. I couldn’t put that on the reel because it was at the end of an episode that was all party. You have to submit every single scene you are in, even if you are walking through. So, people would have to sit through an hour of nothing until that last few minutes. So, now I am using the most recent fountain scene with Jonathan.”
